For over six decades, Hangzhou Advance Gearbox Group Co. Ltd. for drive solutions that move what needs to be moved — from ship drives to construction machinery to wind turbines. What all these applications have in common is an uncompromising standard of quality. Because where forces work, precision determines performance, durability and trust.
Advance understood this connection early on — and acted consistently. With the change from classic transmissions to high-end drive systems, it became clear that measurement technology also needed to be rethought: bigger, more accurate and, above all, integrated.

“We used to work with calipers or machine positioning,” remembers Dai Fengwei, Head of Measurement Technology at Advance. “But as the size of the component increased, it quickly became clear that this is neither efficient nor reliable. ”
Large gear housings and sprockets in particular require a measurement solution that records form and position tolerances just as reliably as complex gears — and that in a single, continuous measurement process. The requirements were clearly defined: large measurement range, high accuracy, and gear and coordinate measurement in one system.
“We compared several CMM manufacturers — functionally and economically. In the end, only one solution met all of our requirements. ”
The decision was made on WENZEL LHF 3020. A coordinate measuring machine developed for large and complex workpieces — with a construction close to the ground for optimal accessibility, double drives in the Y-axis for high dynamics and incremental position measurement systems for maximum position stability.
“Today, we measure complete housings in full size — precisely, reproducibly and significantly faster than before,” says Dai. “The opportunity to test large sprockets directly on the CMM is particularly valuable for us. This has significantly advanced our development and production processes, particularly in the wind power sector. ”
As early as 2008, when Advance was working on three-meter sprockets for wind turbines, the LHF 3020 was equipped with gearing software — a real competitive advantage. “Back then, there were hardly any suitable solutions on the market. With WENZEL, we were able to reduce personnel costs and significantly increase measurement efficiency. ”
Particularly impressive: The LHF 3020 has been in use for around 15 years — and is still delivering stable, reliable measurement results. “The machine runs as reliably today as it did on the first day,” says Dai. “And if there is an issue, WENZEL Service is quickly on site. This gives us security during ongoing production operations. ”
For Advance, measurement technology has long been more than just quality assurance. It is a strategic tool — for less waste, higher process reliability and consistently high product quality.
The focus is on the future: “We want to further deepen our cooperation,” emphasizes Dai. “Together, we can further advance technological progress in the transmission industry. ”
After our visit to Advance, a clear impression remains:
Where size meets precision, partners with vision are needed — and measurement technology that not only measures, but grows with you.
