With the industrial Computed tomographs eXact S From WENZEL, Neo Dens, manufacturer of dental implants, raises its quality assurance to the highest level. Every day, the Croatian company produces an average of around 20 individual parts and 500 series parts using the latest manufacturing technologies.
Neo Dens products are used in dental implantology and dentistry. In addition to the desired aesthetics, they also help end customers to replace the parts of the teeth or jawbone elements that have broken down naturally. Managing Director Marko Živko explains the high quality requirements for implant prosthetics: “The abutment, for example, serves as a mounting and fixing element and ensures the stability of the dental prosthesis as a support pillar. Our products guarantee the highest quality treatments. Our focus is on long-term tooth preservation for customers.”
The parts vary in size and weight, e.g. implant screws can be 3.5 mm long and gingival former 12 mm long. It usually involves very delicate parts that only weigh a few grams. The surface roughness values of the manufactured workpieces are in the order of 0.001-0.0001 mm. The tolerance of certain dimensions is approximately 0.01 mm and applies to every part that is a mating surface with respect to another part.
“Since our parts are very small and therefore often difficult to measure with conventional methods, and because of their geometric complexity, it was necessary to carry out measurements that cover the entire dimension of the products, including inside the component,” says Marko Živko. The medical parts must have special mechanical properties as they are exposed to various forces and loads. It is therefore often necessary to be able to inspect the interior of the product to check for possible material degradation that would not be visible without CT.
Until now, quality assurance has used conventional methods, such as calipers or micrometers, or contract measurements with computer tomographs have been commissioned from external providers. After manufacturing, the products are now completely scanned directly at the company using WENZEL's eXact S 130 computer tomograph. After the measurement, Neo Dens uses the eXact Analysis software to inspect the interior of the part, then triangulate the volume and create cross-sections that can be measured easily and quickly using the proven WM | Quartis measurement software.
“Because of the ability to carry out fast and reliable measurements, we opted for a CT from WENZEL.” Marko Živko, CEO of Neo Dens.
“We also appreciate the quality of the hardware and the user-friendly software interfaces. The quick responses to inquiries we sent, as well as the qualified and straightforward collaboration with support technicians and engineers, completely convinced us.”
Neo Dens d.o.o. based in Zagreb, Croatia manufactures both individual and serial parts that are used in dental implantology. The products include parts such as abutments (connecting element between a dental implant and a prosthetic device such as a dental crown), Ti-base links, temporary cylinders, healing abutments, implant screws. Special products such as individual abutments, individual multi-unit All-on-X solutions, individual caps/bridges and/or crowns/bridges, individual partial frameworks are all manufactured using CNC milling machines and the SLM metal printing process.
